Branch Manager (Melt Group)

Our client, an international chain of supermarkets, is looking for a Branch Manager in Maputo.

The purpose of the job is to manage the branch and his/her assistant managers, controllers, staff, equipment and stock so that it functions effectively and that customers are satisfied and overall financial goals are achieved.

Responsibilities

To ensure that sales and profit is generated

• Meet or exceed budgeted sales;
• Achieve budgeted Gross Profit;
• Achieve agreed days of stock ordering according to parameters;
• Achieve budget on expenses;
• Maximize the income of the branch;
• Undertake daily train inspections.

To ensure that the branch complies to labour- and other legislation

• Adhere to all legislative standards and requirements:
  • Branch inspections;
  • Equipment checks (tills and freezers);
  • Monitoring Organizational Health and Safety standards;
  • Monitoring licensing standards;
  • Compliance to alarm call-outs;
  • Chair and provide advice on disciplinary hearings

To meet customer expectations

• Maintain a consumer friendly environment;
• Handle all customer complaints;
• Ensure that the branch complies to housekeeping and hygiene standards.

To manage staff to ensure productivity

• Adhere to company policy, procedures and labour legislation;
• Adhere to selection criteria and standards;
• Adhere to productivity standards;
• Hold daily management meetings with assistant managers to determine needs/problem areas in the branch and to allocate tasks to them;
• Communicate and give guidance to staff on targets received from senior management;
• Pro-actively plan activities and organize staff to ensure the necessary amount of staff to assist customers;
• Supervise and ensure that staff performs their duties satisfactorily;
• Monitor and assess trainee managers’ progress.

To manage stock according to company policy

• Perform proper stock movement according to company policy;
• Adhere to cash up banking procedures;
• HP/Credit control and credit collection;
• Control assets properly;
• Adhere 100% to price changes;
• Take stock accurately;
• Pro-actively plans to ensure that enough stock is available;
• Make and communicate future plans for possible promotions and seasonal changes;
• Continuously and pro-actively monitors stock levels for gaps;
• Solve short- and medium-term problems relating to the branch’s stock.

To ensure ongoing training and development of all staff members

• Perform ongoing succession planning;
• Pro-actively determine the appropriate on-the-job training, discipline and counseling for staff;
• Mentor staff by giving feedback on performance to achieve standards;
• Constant feedback to staff regarding progress towards achieving KPIs;
• Following through on the necessary training and development in the branch.

Profile

• 3-4 years in a similar position
• Fluent English level.
