Action Against Hunger is a recognized humanitarian association as public utility and founded in 1979, the organization operates in 47 countries in the fields of nutrition, health, food safety and livelihood, water, hygiene and sanitation and mental health and care practices. As part of our programs, we are currently looking for: Chief Accountant.

Contract duration: 5months (Renewable)

Place of work: Pemba

Availability: 01.08.2025

Special conditions: Vacancy open to all Mozambique, it is an advantage for Pemba residents

Remuneration: 118,184.00MZN (Gross monthly Income) and 13° Month paid in December (prorata depending on the starting date)

General Objective

Ensure that accounting records and supporting documents are properly maintained in accordance with the internal rules and laws of the country.

Specific Objectives

Mission 1: Control the monthly accounting of partners, bases and capital

The Head of Accounting is responsible for:

• Control all reconciliations of the mission’s banks and cash registers;
• Verification and guarantee of invoice eligibility;
• Monitor and control mission progress;
• Collect and verify the accounting journals exported by the bases;
• Reconcile all Class 4 accounts monthly;
• Ensure the recovery of accounting documents from the databases;
• Check the archiving of the mission’s accounting documents.

Mission 2: Monthly consolidation of mission accounts (including partners)

The Head of Accounting is responsible for:

• Verification of payment of lease installments and assignment of charges;
• Updating depreciation records for mission equipment and vehicles;
• Extract of expense invoices for other missions (Intercos) to be sent to headquarters;
• Extraction of invoices for advance payments of subsidies to be sent to the headquarters;
• Prepare and file original submitted tax and social security returns in a separate folder;
• Integrate headquarters exchange rates;
• Enter the daily records of prepaid provisions and expenses;
• Collection and import into SAGA of accounting journals from banks and cash desks;
• Importing expenses incurred and invoices from the head office into SAGA;
• Editing the monthly accounting closing package;
• Enter regularization operations (OD) in SAGA after the monthly closing.

Mission 3: Participate in the pre-audit of financing contracts

The Head of Accounting is responsible for:

• Supervise the presentation of financing contracts (General Analytical Diary, distribution of invoices after OD, editing of proof of expenses at headquarters);
• Develop the risk table for validation by the Head of the Finance Department;
• In collaboration with the Head of Finance, verify the consistency of accounting records with interim and final financial reports.

Mission 4: Supervise and manage your team

The Head of Accounting is responsible for:

• Carrying out accounting training sessions on the mission;
• Evaluating team personnel at least once a year.

Mission 5: Ad hoc support to bases

The Head of Accounting is responsible for:

• Participate, as necessary, in the accounting management of the bases;
• Carry out periodic physical checks on the bases.

Skills & Required

Minimum of 2 years of higher education in Accounting/Finance and proven professional experience in accounting and financial management.

The Head of Accounting is responsible for:

• Good knowledge of accounting procedures, Knowledge of SAGA software;
• Good knowledge of procedures for filling documents;
• Rigor/ Organizational skills/ Sense of confidentiality;
• Computer skills (Word, Excel, Powerpoint);
• Degree in Accounting, Auditing and Finance;
• Autonomy and proactivity, Sense of diplomacy and good communication skills;
• Knowledge of finance for Humanitarian aid projects is an advantage;
• Minimum of 2 years of experiencce in Accounting and Auditing;
• Fluent in Portuguese in English.
