Reporting to the Country Manager

This is a Greenfield operation that has the rights to 9,500 hectares of prime farm land with significant water rights. The company will focus on Horticulture, Lemons, Mangoes & avocado pears under irrigation;
This will be coupled with a significant community outgrower model mainly on the permanent plantings;
Current Staff Portuguese country manager and Portuguese administration manager. Five other supervisors as permanent staff and the rest are contract workers;
Farm is located close to a good tarred road and the administration base operates out of Pemba which is a rapidly developing city due to discoveries of offshore oil & Gas.

Plan and implement the horticultural production based on information supplied my management of market prices and demand;
Initiate a plant nursery for the citrus and mango project. This will include growing the rootstock from seed and grafting the budstock once the rootstock is of the right size. Courses and consultants will be used to support the candidate if he has insufficient experience in this field;
The candidate will also supervise land clearing;
Implement drip irrigation and/or micro spray irrigation;
Initially Machinery maintenance would be the responsibility of the candidate, but this will be passed on to a maintenance manager at a later stage.

English essential and a working knowledge of Portuguese would be useful;
Must be computer literate and able to do planning, budgets and spread sheets;
Male, 28 plus;
Must have experience in general farming with an emphasis on orchard management and horticulture;
Must be able to work in a team and it is essential that the candidate maintains good labour relations and community relations;
A knowledge of and experience of drip irrigation and/or micro spray irrigation required;
Mechanical experience also required;
