The purpose of the Health & Safety Officer is to provide advice, support and mentoring on the full range of operational and strategic Health and Safety issues to the operational workforce inclusive of contracting groups.
The Health & Safety Officer also supports an improvement culture and understands and demonstrates behaviours as a team member that is consistent with the TWIGG Exploration & Mining Limitda values.
Duties and Responsibilities
Conducting and coaching in Field Observations and Safety Interactions;
Incident Investigation support and guidance;
Maintaining the Health & Safety Management System;
Health & Safety reporting;
Health & Safety internal audits and workplace inspections;
Health and Safety training and inductions;
Incident, hazard and risk register management;
Health & Safety consultation with the workforce;
Promote continuous improvements in the use of Health & Safety systems and tools;
Monitor Health & Safety processes to ensure compliance with TWIGG Exploration & Mining Limitda standards;
Look for ways to reduce duplication of efforts across Health & Safety systems;
Promote Health & Safety systems across TWIGG Exploration & Mining Limitda;
Assist with the implementation of the Health & Safety Management Plan;
Risk and hazard management identification and mitigation;
Ensure Health & Safety systems are easy to use and understood by all staff;
Promote the use of Health & Safety Improvement Suggestions.
Skills and Competencies
Operational experience in Health & Safety, preferable mining, construction or heavy industry;
Previous experience in interpretation, and implementation of Health & Safety legislation;
Sound knowledge of Health & Safety systems and data capture;
Understanding and experience in risk management;
Qualification/s in Health, Safety, Training/Assessing and Auditing;
High level communication, interpersonal and facilitation skills;
Ability to work cohesively with and influence others;
Ability to prioritise effectively;
Computer literate;
Ability to read, write and communicate in English and Portuguese.
This position is to be based in Balama on a 6:2 Roster, with fly in and fly out allocated accordingly.
