CARE Internacional, a development and humanitarian organization in Mozambique since 1986 with offices in more than 70 countries and part of a large international federation seeks to hire dynamic and experienced professionals, People & Culture Director based in Mozambique – Maputo.
The People and Culture Director will work closely with the Country Director to ensure that CARE Mozambique builds and sustains an organizational culture where staff are actively engaged, motivated, and aligned with the organization’s mission of saving lives, defeating poverty, and achieving social justice.
This role is crucial in managing and driving the human resources function in a way that reflects CARE’s core values, particularly in gender equity, diversity, and inclusion. By ensuring that human resource management and development practices are effectively implemented, the People and Culture Director plays a key role in fostering a positive, supportive, and empowering work environment.
This position will oversee the full spectrum of human resources operations, from recruitment and talent management to performance evaluation, learning and development, compensation and benefits, and employee relations.
The Director will lead strategies to ensure CARE Mozambique attracts, retains, and nurtures the best talent, reflecting the diversity of the communities it serves. A central component of this role is to create and maintain an environment where staff members are not only motivated but feel a strong sense of pride in their contributions to CARE’s work.
The Director will regularly monitor the organizational climate through staff engagement surveys and feedback, implementing initiatives to strengthen staff morale and satisfaction.As a member of CARE Mozambique’s Executive Team and the wider Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the People and Culture Director plays a critical role in shaping organizational strategies that promote a healthy, high-performing work environment.
This role is pivotal in advising the Executive Team on human resources and organizational development, ensuring alignment with CARE’s mission and values. The Director will work with senior leadership to drive change management initiatives, enhancing organizational agility and capacity to respond to emerging challenges and opportunities.
The People and Culture Director will also serve as a key leader in championing CARE’s commitment to gender equity and diversity, ensuring that these values are reflected in all HR policies and practices. This includes implementing comprehensive learning and development programs, fostering leadership growth, and ensuring that CARE’s talent management processes are inclusive and equitable. Additionally, this role is responsible for compliance with Mozambique’s labor laws, HR policies, and safeguarding practices.
The Director will manage employee relations, including conflict resolution and disciplinary processes, while maintaining CARE Mozambique’s commitment to staff wellbeing, wellness, and work-life balance.In summary, the People and Culture Director will ensure CARE Mozambique remains an employer of choice by fostering an inclusive, engaged, and high-performing workforce. The Director will lead the human resources strategy, oversee policy implementation, and ensure that the organization’s HR practices align with its strategic goals and values, contributing significantly to CARE Mozambique’s impact in the communities it serves.
