Brief Description of School:

The Aga Khan Academy Maputo opened in 2013 as the third in an integrated network of schools being established across 14 countries in Africa, Central and South Asia, and the Middle East. Currently, we have around 160 students, in the academy and growing further.

The academy programme is bilingual: English and Portuguese.

The Aga Khan Academies focus on excellence: we aim to develop students to become home-grown leaders who can enact positive change in their societies. We provide a rigorous education for exceptional students selected on merit, regardless of their socio-economic, cultural or religious background.

The Academies customise the IB curriculum to our mission of building future leaders. We aim to stimulate creativity, intellectual curiosity and honest enquiry.

Required attributes:

·         A Bachelor’s degree with teaching qualification;

·         At least 3 years’ experience in teaching;

·         Demonstrated ability to create and maintain an atmosphere of high expectations for teachers and students;

·         Good communication and interpersonal skills in relating to parents, students and other teachers;

·         Willingness to engage with faculty members across the grade 1–12 continuum;

·         Inspire and motivate students gain a deeper appreciation for English Literature;

·         Bolster academic attainment at both the PYP, MYP and DP, with particular attention being paid to students’ achievement in English MYP and DP.

Valued additional assets:

•              Experience working in a cross-cultural environment

•              Experience with residential programmes is an advantage

•              Commitment to the co-curricular life of the school is expected

•              Track record of producing exemplary results at the IB Exams or Moderation.

•              Grounded knowledge in educational research

•              Willingness to engage with faculty members across the grade 1–12 continuum.
